It is the official start of the Alaskan Highway
If you don’t have a picture of either yourself or your equipment here…
…then you never officially made the trip
Now, for all of you that think this blog is a documentary, it ain’t. :)
This is the famous curved bridge of the original AK highway
They were nice about making this little detour and keeping the old bridge…
…even though it is not part of the new highway.
I guess Tim liked riding on it, here he is coming back again.
This little creek flows under the bridge.
Lot’s of oil and gas exploration goes on in the area and these little towns are built as a result.
There are a few of these large fuel tank placed where you can card purchase fuel if you have the right card. I don’t :)
After a couple of hundred miles of bland prairie, the landscape is starting to get pretty again.
I like how they have cleared a few yards of brush along the roadway. It gives you a little more warning went the animals come out.
Like this bear. He was the second one we saw today. The first one was a bit aggressive, this one ran away.
Most of the road that we have ridden so far has been nicely paved. We did however have a few miles of this.
The beavers up here have built some very impressive dams.
I like how they put in a hot tub area next to the main pool
