Butch met me at the Days Inn and we headed out for the days ride. We crossed the bridge next to this dam.
It seems that everywhere you look on these rivers there is either a bridge or a dam.
A lot of power is produced at the dams
A lot of cargo is transported through these locks
Butch checking out the new lock being constructed
It might be awhile before it is done.
We just happened onto Georges house. Pretty nice.
I can’t figure out what these two cylinders are.
Lots of large barges being pushed by tugs
Sounds like that engine is only turning maybe 500 RPM
They move a lot of water past the screws
Butch leading me over another bridge
Several police agencies was looking for a suspect here.
They were well armed.
Looks like they got their man! I heard he was doing 5mph under the speed limit, a very serious offense.
A result of when Andrew Jackson removed the Cherokee from their native land to Indian reservations west of the Mississippi River.
Such a beautiful ride.
Who wouldn’t want to live a town of Joy?
Very tranquil
Use the whole road, that’s what it’s for
Need to get this firewood home
Barges on all of the big rivers
We’re going to take this Ferry into Illinois
Well, if he can ever get it lined up with the ramp
Almost there
Last on, almost last off
Loading time
It’s very interesting how the power united is connected to the ferry deck.
Watch the next few pics to see how it works
Our new destination, Illinois
You’d think one back up would be enough
Butch is sighting us in just in case the captain needs his help
Sir you need to turn 30 degrees to the north!
The first mate lowering the ramp
Not sure if it’s still in operation
I escaped to the other side of the river. That is where I was arrested.
Lots of boats are moored at this marina
